Abstract
In this paper, a design guideline for the required fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) details to strengthen the existing reinforced concrete (RC) columns with reinforcement details violating the provisions of the current seismic design codes has been developed. A programming code with multi-algorithm for the design procedures of the FRP-RC columns was implemented in graphical-user-interface (GUI) software using C-Sharp language, which can correctly calculate the moment-curvature curve and the interaction diagrams of the FRP-RC sections using an eccentric-based design-oriented stress-strain model, recently developed by the authors. Moreover, it provides the FRP-jacket thickness based on the required drift capacity. This method has been verified against the experimental results of several experimentally tested FRP-jacketed RC columns from the literature. The results indicated that the proposed design method using the developed software could help design engineers to safely and accurately define the FRP reinforcement details, and the predicted idealized lateral load-displacement response is matching well with the experimental results.
